Not great
This is better than the stock mic on most all radios but this is not better than my RoadKing 56 mic. I does have more modulation than a lot of mics out there but there is too much background noise. I tried quite a few mics with other drivers and base stations and I got the same review from each one of them. They were tested at mic #1, mic #2, etc. The RK56 was hands down the best as far as noise cancelling and quality sound. The astatic 636l didnt have a deep tone to it but still had the noise cancelling down pretty good. The skythumper came in 3rd. It had more loudness than the Astatic but more background noise also. Last was the workman 56. It was the same quality as the skythumper just a hair quieter on modulation. Overall, if you dont want to spend 59 bucks on a Roadking, and you want a deeper tone than the astatic, go with this skythumper. Ill keep my Roadking hooked up and the skythumper as the backup mic. |

ST-65DX
This is one of the cheapest upgrades you can buy. I can hear the power difference in my talk back speaker and everybody says the radio (Magnum S-680) sounds very powerful. I like this mic more than my RK-56. I have now ordered the Skythumper external speaker hoping to be able to crank my mic gain up farther! |
